The MOTHERHOOD Campaign aims to celebrate the beauty of post-birth bodies, normalise different shapes and sizes of women, spark conversation and, most importantly, help women feel confident and proud of their post-baby bodies.

The photographs by Sophie Darwin depict the raw and incredibly emotional experience of birth and motherhood. The aim is for mothers of all shapes and sizes to be able to identify with these photos in one way or another, and to feel more confident with their ‘imperfections’ - definitely offering a different view to images we see portrayed on social media platforms.

Just one day before this film shoot I found out I was pregnant with my second child. It is no surprise that I therefore found filming these beautiful mothers with their children a little bit emotional.

In this day and age it is one of the hardest things to feel 100% comfortable with your body. Espeacially after growing a baby for 9 months and giving birth. Many mothers feel that their body is foreign after giving birth as it feels and looks completely different to their pre-pregnancy selves. To promote a positive mental wellbeing it is important to highlight how beuatiful a mother’s body is, regardless of size or imperfections.

After filming, I caught my reflection just as I stepped into the shower, and for the first time I felt happy and accepting in my own skin. I felt a huge sense of relief as the self-dislike I had harboured left me. It was at that moment I realised the importance of this campaign.
